Now that I have
finally arrived and have met some of you already, allow me to
tell you a little about myself.
Although I was born in Dallas, Texas, I grew up in Indianapolis
and have lived a total of fifteen years in South Bend so I
consider myself a true Hoosier. My father is a doctor and is
from Hartford City, Indiana. My mother is a native of Mexico
City, so I speak Spanish fluently and have a lot of relatives
who still live throughout Mexico. I am the second of eight
children and an uncle to 26 nieces and nephews (seven of which
are here in town).
After high school, I came to the University of Notre Dame and
got my Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Theater in 1987.
After a brief attempt at a job as a buyer for Lord and Taylor in
New York City, I entered Moreau Seminary for the Congregation of
Holy Cross in 1988. During my deacon year and after ordination
to the priesthood in 1994, I served at a parish in Arizona, then
worked in Student Affairs and Campus Ministry at Notre Dame for
eight years.
The last four years I have been serving as the Director of
Campus Ministry at Notre Dame High School for Boys in Niles,
Illinois northwest of Chicago, teaching religion as well for the
last two years. I am excited about being back in parish
ministry, and look forward to meeting you all over the next
weeks and months. God bless you all!
